Last year at this time I was busy applying for jobs and trying to get into school. I was really unsure of what I would be doing for the winter and just hoping that we would have the money to get through. Now a year later we are deeply in debt and ever so slowly working our way out, I have finished my undergraduate coursework, and have begun a new job. What a difference a year makes.
As I move towards this new semester I will be looking to put some long hours in on weekends. I am a little behind as I registered for a research project (part of my studies) and was expecting to start over the summer. Well due to delays in finding lab space and other resources I have not really started yet. It is kinda scary knowing that as of September 1st I will be half way finished the time allotted for my research project but I will have not even started.
Then to add to the work required of a research project I need to register and start another class. I have not decided what I am going to take and since I am not sure what is being offered I do not even have any plan. You would think I would be worried but for every semester I have taken at the U of S this same thing happens. About 2 weeks before the semester begins I contact my advisor and we come up with a course for me to take. Usually this process takes until the day before the class starts and I sneak in just in time. (with overrides from the dean of course). It is a stressful way to get an education but this is the way I have to do it.
If we were to flash forward another year from now I think I can make some predictions about where I will be:
- Convocated from the U of S with my Post Graduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- Registered to begin the Masters of Science Course at the U of S
- GDs will have launched the first 2 products under our own name (not products we are selling for others) See: http://www.gdsdynamics.com
- Dana and I will be debt free(does not count mortgage and student loans, just the plastic debt and debt owed to parents)
- I will be a Professional Engineer (or very very close to that point)
Time will tell if we can pull these things off but I believe it is possible. Of course there are many more items that I want to write on that list but I think it would jinx them. lol
Anyone else set goals like these for themselves? Do you achieve them or forget them? If you do your best and do not achieve the goal do you get depressed or realize that you have gained experience and move onto something new? Comments below. :)
