Two kinds of annoying drivers - A Rant -

Alright let me warn you, if you do not wish to read a blog entry about
someone complaining about other drivers then just move along now.

So it was the thanks-giving long weekend here and we went to Kindersley to spend time with family.  On the way back home we hit the wonderful long weekend traffic.  I now know of the two most annoying kinds of drivers:

1. The "200 kmph" is not fast enough guy.  As you are driving down the highway at 110 kmph (already speeding although slightly), are already in a long lineup of 20 cars when over the horizon there shines a light.  Before you know it everyone is slamming on their brakes as this car comes zipping along at speeds exceeding the safety zone for airplanes let alone cars comes weaving in and out of traffic.  I have seen people switching lanes frequently while city driving (double lanes, slower speeds), and well that is always stupid it is only slightly dangerous.  When you are driving at significant speeds on a single lane highway with 20 other cars in your direction and another 40 or so in the other direction, this is not safe behavior.  Prep the body bags and turn the freezer on, we have another body just about ready to be delivered.  I mean really, why in the world do you need to endanger every ones’ lives just so you can feel cool in your fancy sports car!  Man I hate that.

2. Picture this, you come up behind someone doing the actual speed limit (100kmph) and there is someone directly behind them, riding their bumper.  Is it safer to choose an opportune time, switch lanes, put the pedal to the metal and pass, or to drive 100 kmph and kiss the bumper for as long as possible.  I get that you are preparing to pass, but if you are too scared/stupid to understand an opportune time then bugger off.  Leave a safe distance between you and the car in front so that when a fox jumps out in front of that car and they slam on the brakes, you can stop without playing bumper cars.  Safety first people!  If you do want to pass then you can see much further down the road if you back off a little (again for safety) and then when you see a chance speed up before the opportunity arrives so that you can get the pass completed much quicker.  How many people slept through drivers ed and are now assuming they are great drivers when in reality they are endangering us all.

Alright so I know I am not the best driver... my wife reminds me of this
every two seconds. (lol)  But I try my best to always be as safe as
possible and in situations when there are an abnormal number of cars on the road, I take the extra effort to do the little things to stay safe.  I
sure wish that the 2% of the population who fits into the two categories I outline above would do the same.

Alright I am finished my rant, be safe out there.
