Working Update, Arcade Cabinet

I have now been employed as an Electrical Engineer-in-Training with Startco Engineering for just a little over a year.  I thought since I have now had time to settle in to my new job, that I should take some time to tell everyone my thoughts.

Working at Startco is a lot different from where I previously worked.  The company is smaller and this means my role is to start a project, design the hardware, software, and bring the concept into production.

While this is my role there are other Engineers there.  I do not have to design the case, the power supply, layout the board, or create the computer version of the schematic.

This level of control over a project allows for me to learn about so much more then where I was previously.  I now have to deal with noise between Analog and Digital grounds and come up with designs to minimize the effects on my A/D circuit.

I still write software, and I still create design documentation for the software but now I am the one designing the hardware to match that software.  This is just an awesome way for a young Engineer to learn as much as possible about the field.  I am very grateful that I found this job.

On  another topic I have been hard at work creating a piece of furniture for my home.  With the help of my friend George, I have been building an arcade cabinet.  For those that do not know an arcade cabinet is the name for the big machines that play Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and so many others.

My cabinet will have support for 4 players, and will run the games on a computer hidden inside.  This will allow the cabinet to play any game from the old arcades, through to the older consoles.  I cannot wait to finish so I can game away!

Now you know that I still love my job, I am having a lot of fun building a cabinet, and life is going well.  I hope that things continue.

 Thanks for reading.
